Anthony Ammons Jr.
Facilitator
My name is Anthony Ammons Jr. At the age of 16, I was incarcerated and sentenced to 102 years to life. However, I was fortunate to turn my life around, adopt a new perspective, and make positive changes.
In 2018, I was featured in a documentary titled “QBall,” which resulted in the reduction of my sentence through a commutation by Governor Jerry Brown. My sentence was reduced from 102 years to life to 19 years to life.
Following my second board hearing in 2021, and since my release from prison, I have dedicated myself to amplifying the voice of the incarcerated community through various employment opportunities. I have worked as an elevator operator for the Golden State Warriors, a public safety coordinator for Assembly Member Mia Bonta, and currently as a special project coordinator for the California Department of Justice.
In addition to my professional responsibilities, I am committed to community engagement and human-driven initiatives. While working for the California Department of Justice, I am also pursuing an associate degree in humanities at Long Beach Community College. I believe that education enhances personal experiences and fosters a deeper understanding of the world.
